Specialised Foods
These are foods that are not readily available and have high content of particular nutrients without necessarily being processed or concentrated. They could be classified as ‘superfoods’. Examples are as follows:-
‘Cherry active’: an extract of juice from Montmerency cherries which are have relatively high values of some minerals, vitamin C and melatonin. They are used as immune boosters and for improving sleep, and useful to those suffering from chronic Gout.
Apricot kernels; Taken from a particular strain of apricots they are high in Vitamin B17 which has been linked with some improvements to immunity.
Manuka Honey: Whilst many honeys have antibacterial properties, certified honeys from bees gathering from Manuka trees have a healing property for skin tissues which has proven benefit for ulcers.
