Probiotics
Although we use the term probiotic (to describe small quantities of bacterial forms naturally found in our intestines and elsewhere on skin) it is regarded as invalid under EU labelling regulations. The common understanding from their historical usage and emergence in fermented foods, is that they may promote increased populations of beneficial bacteria in digestion system. However, there are deemed to hundreds if not thousands, of different bacteria but generally 30 or 40 types are regarded as most influential. As they have major impacts on our health and in protection of our health, as humans we depend on maintaining levels of beneficial bacteria whilst preventing over population of some types of bacteria (e.g. e-coli or candida). As the science develops then the choice of probiotics (and prebiotics – the food for probiotic bacteria) will increase. We already stock a wide range of probiotics for adults and infants generally to address gut dysfunction and immune problems. The principal suppliers at Millmark are:
Optibac; Solgar; Biocare; Quest; Wholesale Health; Viridian
