Constipation

Constipation

Most people will experience constipation occasionally. In many instances increasing fibre in the diet and drinking more fluids can improve transit and resolve the problem. Continual usage of laxatives can lead to a lazy bowel. As well as incurring discomfort, constipation can increase bowel toxicity and prevent nutrient absorption. Chronic constipation can be a sign of more serious bowel disturbances and should be medically assessed. In any event, it can take time to restore regular bowel action.

In some cases, prescription drugs can cause constipation. In some cases, food intolerances may slow the peristalsis movement. Irritable bowel syndrome can give constipation. Almost the first action is to try cracked linseeds-added to breakfast. These can release a mucillageous gel which can lead to softer stools thereby enabling easier transit down the intestines. Taking a good quality probiotic to rebuild and maintain levels of the good gut bacteria that keep the colon healthy will help prevent sluggish digestion. You can also easily increase the fibre passing through the gut, which will also help prevent constipation, using supplementation with absorbable fibres from psyllium or oats.
