Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining and results in severe pain after eating foods that react with the lining. Some spices and herbs may affect that condition. Traditionally slippery elm has been used to pacify the stomach before eating. Foods that counter gastric ulcers may prove beneficial, including Manuka honey and licorice. Turmeric is a spice which can reduce inflammation and gentle on the digestion system. Equally, digestive enzymes taken with food may reduce the stomach's sensitivity.
